Catholic Decor

When I first started my blog, I followed Catholic Blogs of Moms that home-school.  I learn about keeping a "feast table" a section in your home dedicated to different Liturgical celebrations within the Catholic faith.

My home's "feast table" has changed many times.  I used an antique banquet table at first, now I use a small two drawer chest.  Being so small. I'm not able to accommodate much on it.

My collection of Catholic icons has increased.  I had them all over the house. Some were stored in the attic, in a china cabinet.

Recently I decided to gather most of those icons and keep them in one location. Close to the "feast table".

I used a book shelf that I was using for family pictures and the kids school bag-packs and books.
The taller icons, where placed on top. The smaller icons on the first shelf.  All the icons of Mary and St. Joseph on the 2nd shelf.  At the bottom, I have St. Patrick, St. Martin of Tours, and St. Therese.

 This other bookshelf was full of books, they are now sitting in a box, waiting to be organized in another bookshelf that I have down the hallway.

Here I placed the pictures of my family. My parents, sisters, and brothers.  At the bottom shelf, I have memories of my children's First Communion.

I'm a Catholic catechist. For two years I thought the children that have made their First Communion.  I like teaching kids about the Saints.  And I used the icons to make visual displays in the classroom.  During the Summer, I  also teach my own children about the Saints.  I have a collection of coloring pages of many of the Saints we have learned about.  Yes, I have been learning too.

The Catholic faith is so rich in traditions and culture.  I have learned so many things from other Catholic Moms, that have blogs.  In a few days, I will be updating my blog.  I want to include on the sidebar a list of interesting posts, I have written in the past two years.

I not only share my home organization ideas, but I also share about the Catholic faith, my Mexican culture, and my fitness and health goals.

I have organized a personal planner binder. In it, I include a section for blogging.  I have now a list of ideas for my blog.  This was one the items I had on my list. To share about my Catholic icons.  Next on my list is crafts organization.

Make-up Brushes

I got this handy cotton ball organizer at CVS.  It comes with a top.  My idea was to use it, for my eye shadow brushes and other beauty supplies.

The drawers right next to it, contain the rest of the cosmetics.  They now have a home not in the bathroom or my bedroom, in my home office.

This is the homework desk.  Will be used for crafts, and as my vanity on the weekends.  The light in this room is perfect for my eye shadow creations.

I have been viewing tutorials for a while trying to learn how to apply eye shadows.  I learned that I have a hooded eye lid.  Most tutorials are great but, no matter how much I tried, I never got the same result. Until, I tried the tutorials for hooded eye lids.

This was the answer to my dilemma.

Delightful Order

Almost Done!

I should be done by now, but do I ever do my work right? No. I get distracted easily.  And I just have to keep looking for more ideas and inspirations instead of doing the job.

Well here is a little of what I have been doing.

The office

 I started working in sections of the tiny office room, that's located just between the kitchen and main bathroom. In front of master bedroom. This was originally the dinning room. Being to small, I converted it to an office.

 I removed that basket organizer where I keep aprons, bags, grocery bags, and dusters. I took that to the laundry room. Instead I placed the file boxes.  And my new thirtyone tote bag. I will write a separate post to show you what I keep there.

That armoire is the pantry for now.  Until I find a better solution for pantry items. On top I have boxes with greeting cards, scrapbook clippings, and blank envelopes.

 I moved the filing cabinet under the copy machine. And the two door cabinet right next to the window.

 On top of the two door cabinet, I have binders, and the printer.  On the wall a schedule for shredding bills and receipts.

 On the opposite wall, right above the homework desk ( not yet organized) Is the motivational board. Motivation for fitness goals and office organization.

  Here is all the papers that will be tossed in the recycle bin.

Office Project #1

Yes, I have done it many times.  The never ending clutter purge.  This summer, I plan to target a few areas in my home, one at a time.

The first area will be the home office.

This is the crafts desk.  Last time that I organized it, this was my end result.  It no longer looks like that.

Office Now!

The office desk look similar to the above pictures.  Not a good place to work, or concentrate.  Well I want to change that.  I want to find a place for everything.  Make new habits, not to pile anything on this desks.  I have to have a motivation, something to inspire me.  So I searched some organizational blogs and found this post at Delightful Order,

Heather shared her craft area project at her blog Timeless and Treasured 

I won't be able to do it exactly like hers, but its inspiration that I can accomplish something similar.  And I'm going to start on it now.  Have a blessed day.

My Summer Goal

Yes, I always wake up wishing I would walk into a magazine home.  You know the one with all the clutter hidden behind some nice huge pantry, closet, or everything organized in matching baskets.

In the meantime, I have to settle for a real home, one with all the clutter out on the counters and tables.  No, I know I don't have to settle with that.  But its going to take hard work and dedication.  Its going to take time. And its not going to happen overnight or like in fairytale.  Where your fairy godmother shows up and with a whisk of her wand makes everything magically perfect.

I'm hoping that I can achieve a good control of my clutter this summer.  I have a summer schedule and I will try my best to stick to it daily and get this house as much as possible a home that is enjoyed. I know its possible if I put time and work into it.

Just like my weight loss goal.  I had to the exercise.   I had to make the changes in my food choices and I reached one of my goals.  I lost 16 pounds.

Now its time to use that same motivation, and work hard to reach my clutter free home.

The Greatest Miracle

This movie was released back in October 2011, but I just had the blessing to purchase the DVD.  I had heard about this movie from a church friend. The movie is about Angels at work in our life.  In the movie the guardian angels appear to three different characters.  In real life this happened to Catalina Rivas.  While she was attending a Mass celebration, Our Lady appeared to her and explained to Catalina everything that happens during a Mass celebration unseen to the human eyes.

I recommend all my friends and readers to see this movie.  You will have a deeper appreciation of the Catholic faith.  Like I said, this really happened to Catalina Rivas and there is a book published in Spanish about her experience.

It is my duty to share this with everyone.  I personally recommend this for anyone over the age of 8 years.  It is a good teaching tool for Cathechist. There is a Spanish version that was also released in Mexico's theaters.

Summer is Here!

I'm so happy that I will have more time to read blogs and write posts in my blog.

Now that the kids are home for summer vacations we will be trying to do activities that are related to our faith and spend quality time with each other.  As well as do some of our usual summer activities like visiting the library.

Our first event for this summer was to attend a wedding.  My brother's friend got married and my brother was the best man.  We were invited to join him.  The wedding took place in Pico Rivera, CA very close to Los Angeles.

Here I am with my sisters and brother at the wedding reception.  My brother was wearing a traditional Charro gala suit. Similar to a Mariachi outfit.  But this is more elegant used for very special occasions. 

The day after the wedding we took the kids to Knott's theme park. This was on Sunday.  But before heading to the park, we all went to Mass at 8AM. We couldn't start our day without attending Mass.

Here they are, ready to start their adventure in the park.

Monday we headed to LA in search of Catholic bookstores.  We were given an address not even knowing we will end up at the wonderful Cathedral of Our Lady of Angels.  Right outside the Gift shop there was a poster of this movie.  We had seen the movie a week before.  The kids were so happy to take pictures next to the poster.  If you haven't yet seen the movie, go see it before its taken off the theaters.

This is outside in the plaza of the Cathedral, behind us the entrance to the Cathedral.

The kids stopped for a few minutes to pray for their safety at the pool. I'm guessing.

We ended our day at a relative's house for dinner.  The kids had their fun at the pool. They waited all weekend for this to happen.

We had an awesome time.  The kids wanted to stay longer, but my sister and her husband had to return to work on Wednesday.

I bought a new movie at the Cathedral.  Is in Spanish but I'm sure you can find it in English.  "The Great Miracle".  I will be talking more about this movie and "Greater Glory" in another post.

I have been touched by this two movies.  I have so much to share with you, in later posts.

P.S - I have spoken with my biological Father five times this month.  He has been calling me.  I just wanted to share with you.
