Keep Calm

I made it a goal for this school year to start my day right.  I want to get back to spending quiet time in the Word.  But somehow things don't go like I want.  Daughter came in this morning, complaining about her brother.  I tried to keep calm but somehow my mood changed, my voice got louder and she noticed right away.

I felt terrible.  How can we spend time in prayer and in God's word, when so many other things call our attention?  How do you keep calm?

When I logged on to facebook this morning I found a link to a post on one of my favorite blogs InCourage.

I just get so happy when God send me messages through other Moms.  This was just what I needed to read today.

Back to school

The kids are back in School.  This  house is back to quiet sounds.  But I hope more gets done this year.

Updated my schedules and To Do list.

Hoping my children help me more, by keeping their rooms cleaned and organized.  So I must lead by example.  I want them to see that Mom was working hard to get this house clean and organized for everyone to enjoy more time together doing fun activities.

I just wanted to share quickly my kids first day of school pics and now its time to get back to blessing my home.

New Looks

Both daughter and I got haircuts this week on Monday. It is much shorter for me.
I needed a different style.  

For Marah is the same long style, just an inch trim.  She loves her long bangs. My daughter is turning into a beautiful young lady.  What can I say, she is my daughter.

We got all the back to school shopping done this week.  Glad they wear uniforms, because all I have to look for is the right colors and the right price.  I got them new shoes.  And I also got some school supplies.

I usually wait till later, because teachers have special lists and they are not given out until the first week of school.   I just bought the basic needs.  School starts next Monday.

Party Success

Julian's 10th Birthday Party

Here is my son.  Now 10 years old.

For the food, we had burgers, hot dogs, tacos, pozole, salads, and pork loin.

The theme was 50's music.  We had a few of the kids show up in style.

The kids had so much fun.  They loved the cupcakes and cake pops provided by my friend Lisette. She is a good friend, that just started this new business of cake dessert tables for parties. I'm very thankful for the  awesome job she did with it, and the kids loved the treats.

I don't have pictures of the table decorations. We lost the camera twice, and forgot to take the pictures.  I also forgot about the ice cream. I bought two tubs.  I was thinking of making milkshakes for the kids and smoothies dinner style but I was just to busy with cooking food.  I even made table menus with the items we will serve.

Feast of the Assumption

A great sign appeared in the sky, a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet,
and on her head a crown of twelve stars.
She was with child and wailed aloud in pain as she labored to give birth.
Then another sign appeared in the sky;
it was a huge red dragon, with seven heads and ten horns,
and on its heads were seven diadems.
Its tail swept away a third of the stars in the sky
and hurled them down to the earth.
Then the dragon stood before the woman about to give birth,
to devour her child when she gave birth.
She gave birth to a son, a male child,
destined to rule all the nations with an iron rod.
Her child was caught up to God and his throne.
The woman herself fled into the desert
where she had a place prepared by God.

Revelations 12:1-6

Mary set out

and traveled to the hill country in haste

to a town of Judah,

where she entered the house of Zechariah
and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting,
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled."

And Mary said:

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever."

Mary remained with her about three months
and then returned to her home.

The Assumption

 

Today on the feast day of the Assumption of Mary, I wanted to share with you this very special celebration.  The two bible passages from above are the readings for today's Mass.  This passages are so beautiful and filled with a lot of meaning.

There is another reason why I celebrate this day.  My daughter Marah was baptized in the Catholic church on this day, 13 years ago.  

I can't remember if at that time, I knew of this celebration of the Assumption.  I don't remember anything being said at the Mass that day.  But now that I know, why we celebrate the Assumption, I can see that God has a reason for everything.  God has chosen very important dates in the life of my daughter.  Her birthday is December 21.  My due date was supposed to be December 12.  The day of the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe.  

Look back at the first passage of Revelation.  The lady described in the passage resembles Our Lady of Guadalupe.  This was so amazing to me, as I read it one day, some years ago.  

One thing I do remember clearly from my daughter's baptism is,  the priest celebrating the Mass that day saying, that we had chosen names that were not in the bible.  Years later, as I was reading Exodus.  I found my daughter's name there.  

Even my Son's birthday is so close to this celebration.  He's birthday is tomorrow.  Yes, is just so amazing to me how God chose this dates for the birth and baptism of my children.  Since I knew I was pregnant with each of my children, they both have been dedicated to God.  It is my prayer that my children and my adopted daughter Kenia, will walk in the paths of God.  

I give thanks to God for this children he has given me.  I thank Mary our blessed mother for saying yes, and bringing our savior into the world.  I seek her intercession daily, for guidance in raising my children.
